Firefighter I Trainee – Minimum Qualifications

Must be at least 18 years old at the time of the written examination.

A high school diploma or a Certificate of General educational Development (GED).

Be able to successfully complete a background investigation including a full employment history check, a credit check, a criminal history records check, and a driving records check.

Be able to pass a comprehensive medical and vision examination including drug screening.

Be able to successfully pass a physical ability examination and a polygraph examination.

Be able to pass a written exam.

Be able to successfully complete Fire Recruit Training, to include Emergency Medical Technician certification.

Be willing to place one's self in potentially dangerous/chaotic situations.

Ability to work in high pressure and potentially stressful situations while making decisions and interacting with others.

Ability to follow instructions under a variety of stressful/high demand situations.

Ability and willingness to effectively work within a team environment, in the station and in the field.

Ability and willingness to adhere to a high set of standards of work quality, trustworthiness, ethics, moral character and safety.

Skill in problem solving and decision making sufficient to make decisions with little or ambiguous information.

Ability to use a computer and modern office suite software for time and attendance reporting and other functions.

Ability to speak and write effectively.

Ability to work under pressure, multi-task, and maintain emotional self-control during emergencies, critical incidents and other situations.


Firefighter II Medic – Minimum Qualifications

In addition to the Firefighter Trainee minimum qualifications listed above

One year of independent practice experience as an Advanced Life Support Provider.

Knowledge of, and skill in, fire prevention, suppression and rescue methods, and tactics.

Knowledge of, and skill in using, ALS, ACLS and PALS methods, tactics, and techniques.

Knowledge of, and skill in, HAZMAT and/or Water Rescue operations, as certified/assigned.

Skill in maintaining/ operating fire suppression apparatus and fire/EMS/rescue equipment.

Ability to perform basic analyses of data and information and make recommendations.
